Courtney Massie
Instructor
Writing centers, composition
As Assistant Director of the Writing Center, Dr. Massie manages the center's operations, supervises and mentors the center's staff, and teaches Advanced Composition. She holds a PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin, where she worked as a writing center consultant and graduate student administrator for several years. Currently, as part of a Summer Team Impact Project grant funded by the Office of Undergraduate Education, she and her colleagues are researching how Mason undergraduate students are using GenAI tools in their writing processes, what knowledge they bring to that GenAI use, and how their uses of GenAI affect their critical thinking and sense of ownership over their writing. In the other parts of her life, she's a violinist, songwriter, horse rescue volunteer, community educator, and hiker.
