The University Writing Center's Online Writing Lab (OWL) is a free service for writers who cannot come to campus for an appointment, or who prefer to work in a virtual environment. OWL combines the tutoring services available in the University Writing Center with the convenience of e-mail. Please know that if you are sending papers over seven pages, the OWL tutor cannot read the entire paper.

Please send one piece per email and allow 3-5 school days for a response. If you have a paper due sooner than that, it may be better to make a face-to-face appointment . You may send up to two assignments per week, 10 per semester.

Before sending any writing to the OWL, writers must register to join the OWL community and read the OWL submission guidelines . Once you've done this, it's time to send your work to us.

A tutor will spend about 45 minutes with your paper -- the same amount of time devoted to a face-to-face session. Our tutors will offer the best comments and advice we can during that time, but we can't cover everything. The more information you give about your assignment and your writing concerns, the more help we can provide.
