Ras Al Khaimah Campus

The Academic Writing Center, Ras Al Khaimah (internally known as the Writing Consultation Center) is an interdisciplinary, campus-wide resource facility directed by Dr. Lorraina Pinnell. The Writing Center provides individual consultation and collaborative writing support at any level and for all types of writing. While the primary focus is on writing and language proficiency, the Writing Center also nurtures writing for the expression and development of critical, scholarly, and analytical thinking skills. The Center provides support in the form of walk-in appointments, a consultation program, an on-going workshop series, and a resource venue. Additionally, the RAK-Writing Center hosts and manages "SandStorm", the new student-run newspaper, "Writers' Bloc", an informal forum for creative writing, and "Strange Series", an alternative approach to remedial language workshops utilizing music and a type of semi-performance. As the Writing Center evolves, an online writing lab (OWL) will be established, a writing center blog, and a training program for student tutors.

RAK students are welcome to send drafts of their essays through OWL to graduate tutors at the Virginia campuses.
